The Ghostwriting Process
Since each project is a collaboration tailored to each client’s specific needs, the process varies depending on the project. As a result, the details outlined here are a mere sketch to give you an idea of how hiring a ghostwriter works. We are, by definition, a clandestine breed, but while we do operate in the shadows to make your work shine, we don’t want you to be in the dark.
The Basics
- Free consultation: When you decide to get started, Trellis will set up a free consultation in person or via phone or e-mail, where we get a feel for your project based on the information you provide.
- Package selection: After talking with us and reviewing our pricing packages, you can choose the tier that best fits your project.
- Getting Started packet: Once you choose a package, we prepare an info packet with more refined price estimates, a rough time frame, and several customizable options to make the finished product reflect you.
- Choose your options: After you’ve reviewed the packet, we will walk you through exactly what elements you’ll need to consider before we start writing.
- Medium: If your story has always come to you with specific mental images, we might pitch a screenplay structure, whereas if you’ve always dreamed of a novel, we’ll talk about how to plan a long-term narrative.
- Tone: What “feel” or “vibe” do you want the story to have? For example, comedic, lyrical, literary, or casual?
- Point of view: Will your story be narrated in first person (“I”, “me”) or third person (“he”, “she”, “they”)?
- Tense: Do you prefer the forward momentum of present tense or the detailed reflection of past tense?
Even shorter works, like articles or speeches, will benefit from this brainstorming phase, to give us an impression of your voice and vision.
Once we know exactly what kind of project you have in mind, we’ll have a more exact estimate of the time frame, cost, and work structure. If the plan sounds good to you, we’ll get started!
The Contract
To see your big idea to the finish line, Trellis commits to your project with a personalized contract. This agreement accomplishes several things:
- Protects privileged information
- Determines the ownership of the completed work
- Outlines everyone’s responsibilities
- Details the exact price
- Stipulates the payment installments
This contract is reserved for long projects. Articles, speeches, and other smaller projects are invoiced upon completion of the work.
Our ghostwriting agreement, like our approach to your writing projects, is customized to reflect your needs. Thus, Trellis provides time to negotiate a contract that will provide a solid foundation for our writing relationship.
Mum’s the Word
Our involvement in your project is 100% confidential. This is your creative vision; we’re just the facilitators. Whether you want to acknowledge us or not is up to you.
However, if you’re happy with your finished product and would like to be used as a testimonial, let us know! We also offer a discount for referrals, so if you’ve referred someone or were referred to us, be sure to mention it.
